We wish to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for all of the support and messages of encouragement received from all over the world following the Great East Japan Earthquake.

About Higashimatsushima

Located approximately 30 km northeast of Sendai City, one of the largest cities in the Tohoku region, Higashimatsushima City is situated along the east side of Matsushima Bay, one of the three most scenic sites in Japan. The city includes Miyato Island, the largest of the islands scattered in Matsushima Bay. Called Oku-Matsushima, the island has preserved an archetypal image of Japan, with its coastline selected as one of the 100 best beaches in Japan. You can enjoy a unique trip in Matsushima Bay to the fullest, riding a pleasure boat that travels through the Sagakei Gorge, one of the three greatest gorges in Japan, and seeing a magnificent view from Mt. Otakamori, one of the Four Best Viewpoints of Matsushima overlooking Matsushima Bay, unspoiled scenery of the area, and the daily lives of local people.

Matsushima Bay is also a fertile fishing ground that provides an abundance of seafood. You can enjoy fresh seafood throughout the year. In particular, oyster culturing is so popular that seed oysters are shipped across the country. Oysters from Matsushima Bay are first class in all aspects, including size and texture. The cultivation of nori (edible seaweed), an essential ingredient in making sushi, is also popular. The quality of nori from Matsushima Bay is so good that it has been presented to the Imperial Family many times.

The key phrase for trips to Higashimatsushima City is the "only trip in the world." Why don't you visit Higashimatsushima City and enjoy your own trip?
